Of course we know that these poll results are somehow Bush and Cheney's fault.
Oh, don't be silly. This has Wolfowitz written all over it!
The Canadian electorate is beginning to seem a rather unforgiving lot. They all but destroyed the Progressive Conservatives as punishment for Mulroney's domestic political adventures, and now they seem unable to draw a sharp distiction between Chretien's scandals and Martin's leadership. That's not too suprising given that Martin was a bigwig of longstanding in Chretien's cabinet.
Oh well. For me Martin really became the bad guy only a few days ago by trying to exploit Canada's east-west schism. For that alone he should lose the PM's office.
Harper graduated from the University of Calgary only a few years before I did, so for the first time Canada may get a PM roughly my age (anyone know how old Kim what's-her-name was when she inherited the office way back when?).
Mulroney's Conservatives were sunk by his Grand Schemes, imho. Reading over the Conservates current platform, it seems mostly about such mundane tasks as making modest reforms and ensuring better management of the govt's resources, rather than some "New Vision of Canada." That could be a really good thing.
