Before the 2000 elections, a number of right-wing loonies made a big deal about how Clinton was going to come up with some way he wouldn't have to leave office. Whole web pages were devoted to secret executive orders, constitutional loopholes, and other drivel.

As the year goes on, I fully expect a similar onslaught along these lines ("Bush will cancel elections!") from the left-wing loonies. Let's hope none of them are included in the regulars on this board.

Lee is right. Voting does not have to be difficult. It's only complex because people demand the counts be near-instantaneous, which requires machine counts, computer polling systems, and other rapid-result methods. A paper ballot where you simply check off your candidate would work just fine, but hey, it might take a few days to sort out the results.

On the other hand, we survived weeks of Florida recounts, so obviously a few days won't kill us.
