re: Greece and the Olympic Games
Art, indeed finding things evoking a past is very inspiring!
One thing that struck me, visiting Greece in 1980, was that most of the best preserved monuments had something to do with death: tombs, etc..It's perhaps a way to believe in immortality.
Anything (and more so today) that deals with life and the present time, will also disappear faster.
