re: What's up with Cassini the past few days?

Since Sunday, July 4, Cassini has been in solar conjunction (defined as when the Earth-Sun-spacecraft angle is less than 3 degrees) and the HGA has been Earth-pointed and will probably remain so until the end of the period on July 11. I'm not sure if any science sequences, especially imaging ones requiring spacecraft maneuvers, are running during this time, though I would be surprised if any were in order to guard against any safing incidents. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if some background fields and particles observations were executing.

For those playing along at home, the other solar conjunction periods for the primary mission are: July 20-26, 2005; August 4-10, 2006; and August 18-24, 2007.
