Seems to be a consistent pattern:
A: an attack point is seized on by Bush's political opponents.
B: The person or persons supporting this (often with a book to sell) are given the red-carpet treatment by the media, getting more air time than the O.J. trial. Sometimes awards are given.
C: The media pounds on the issue for about three weeks.
D: Investigations, if launched, come up with nothing. The issue peters out.
E: At some point, the truth comes out that the whole thing was bullshit to start with.
