re: moral calculus

So you're arguing that completely hypothetical speculation that some number of people might have died in an alternate universe during the time period since the war means that America's not responsible for the deaths that happened in this universe?

If you drop an anvil off a roof on someone's head, the crushed skull is "hypothetical" until it lands, based on your thinking.

Tell ya what--let's discuss the likelihood that no more Jews would have been killed in Germany if Hitler had not been defeated. Can you prove otherwise?

Hell, you're right. I have absolutely no proof that if the U.S. military had just stayed home, Saddam and his killer sons would have suddenly turned over a new leaf and taken up macrame.

It's a goddam war. Some lives lost now will save thousands in the future. Even looking at it solely from Iraq's viewpoint.

In any case, you're ignoring my main point, which is that a site that is quoted by thousands of anti-war types on a daily basis is operating from misleading premises. The hard fact is that most Iraqi civilian deaths since May of 2003 are the "responsibility" of the terrorist and insurgent bastards who caused them.
