Meteor update
METEOR UPDATE: Dr. Heikki Nevanlinna of the Finnish Meteorological Institute reports: "Last night (July 16) at about 2 am Finnish time there were several observations of magnificent meteors over Finland." This flurry follows a widely-reported fireball over the Gulf of Bothnia on July 12th (see below).
FINLAND METEOR: Sea-rescuers were on alert in Finland on July 12th when reports of emergency flares poured in from the Gulf of Bothnia. They soon realized that no ship was in distress. The flares were "meteors." Johan Geisor was on a photo-expedition in the Gulf; he saw a bright fireball and took this picture of its smoky debris at 9:16 p.m. GMT
