Kerry is one of those politicians who takes positions that he think will get him elected, regardless of whether or not he believes in them, or even whether or not they are self-consistent.
A lot of Democrats who supported action against Iraq, either during the Bush administration or earlier, are stuck in one of two positions:
- I believed the intelligence, same as Bush. If he's an idiot or criminal for doing so, I guess I must be, too.
- I never believed the faulty intelligence back then, but I voted for the war anyway because the American mood was swinging in that direction, and I have no principles other than getting re-elected.
Obviously, neither of these positions is a comfortable one, and only the fact that a lot of their electorate won't think this through gives them a chance at the polls.
Whatever else you say about Kucinich, at least he didn't fall into this trap.

In case you hadn't noticed, Kerry is kind of schizoid.
