Project Constellation - What is it?

I think these links may go some way towards explaining the concept behind the name.

These reports show the Shuttle being used to deliver components to LEO. As it will probably be de-commissioned by the time Project Constellation is underway, the CEV will be the new element in the system. My money is on a lifting body design like the HL-20 / HL-42.

As it is eventually planned to exploit lunar resources such as Oxygen (extracted from the Lunar Regolith) this will need to be factored into the system; perhaps at a later stage. The Lunox project (1993) would fit in quite nicely to the overall project.
