I think (an educated guess) that Windows XP has some sort of "restore" function that needs to be dealt with before you can effectively deal with this problem. There is a menu item to shut it off, but I don't know how to purge the files. You can check Microsoft's home page for this sort of thing, or wait for one of our local wizards here to walk you through it.
