The overhead shots seem to indicate that there were some sizeable impacts in the area although I doubt that's the entire reason for the uplifting unless these rocks came in at quite some angle. Read a post recently that theorized the rock outcroppings they're seeing on the way up the hills could be from splattering of briny materials from the impacts. Certainly don't have the geological knowledge though to do more than speculate.

Man, wish they'd train the pancam back down towards that valley. So far the only shots back down the hill are with the navcam which has so much less resolution. The distant stuff is really blurry.
