Learned this in an A&E e-mail today. When the first ones rolled off the lines, they were $1,000 each, the equivalent of almost $7,000 today.
As with many of the wonderful technological items we enjoy, what started out as something too expensive for anyone but the wealthy eventually became something for all of us, because there were wealthy people to buy them originally.
