It's remarkable how many people who declare themselves too intelligent to have any truck with the traditional idea of "God," somehow have a burning need to construct one of their own.
Whether it's Fresco's master computers, or Kurzweil's "singularity," it's fascinating how much their visions have in common with the age-old attraction of an all-powerful deity that will someday feed us all, abolish war, and wipe every tear from our eyes.
Suspect all "utopias." Every one I've ever seen is based on an all-powerful centralized authority that runs everything.
