As Lieutennant Governor to Mike Dukakis (note: Mikey* was NOT invited to speak at Kerry's convention) Kerry the public official refused to prepare MA for civil defense in the mid 80s. That was a time of Cold War. Anyone familiar with the turf knows that there are/were potential escape routes to save lives should say Boston get nuked. But the all-knowing elitist refused to even plan for evacuation. There was not an ultra-left position that the guy did not embrace. This same philosophy is reflected in his US Senate votes (on the odd occasion he bothered to be there to vote) where independent sources rate him as having the most liberal voting record in the US Senate.

* I may not agree with Dukakis much but I do respect him as one of that rare breed, an honest, sincere, dedicated to the public, politician and I respect him as a person.
