Flame » in reply to Churchill on Muslims

The true answer lies in between.

It's obvious that Arabs are no longer living as they were in 1899. A little thing called the oil industry came into the picture. I've seen pictures of major cities in the Arab nations. They ain't living in tents any more, and it seem obvious that most of them have come to an accommodation between the Muslim religion and modern civilization.

Right now there are forces in the Muslim world trying to turn the clock back. The Taliban. Wahabbism,* and other radical Islamic groups and ideas are attempting to return to the tents, and the type of culture that Churchill was talking about.

The Muslim religion is at a cusp, like Christianity once was, when it was in the space between the Dark Ages and now. It could go either way, but I think the odds are with civilization. There's just too much of it to avoid or destroy.

Somehow, the education process of radical Islamism has to be dealt with. Schools, mosques, and teachers are generating new radicals. About 80 percent of the mosques in America are associated with the Wahabbi sect, which is pushed by interests in Saudi Arabia. If this can be somehow turned around, there might be a good chance for the Muslim religion to accommodate itself to the secular world like most of Christianity has.

*I have to look up that dumb word EVERY TIME to spell it right. Turns out it's spelled both ways. Go figure.
