John Kerry refered to atrocities committed by himself, his unit*, and others as reported to him in the Winter Soldier group. Several of that group have been discredited, including several high profile members of VVAW.

*When Kerry claimed to have committed atrocities, he also accused others in his unit of doing the same. It didn't happen, but Kerry had tarnished the reputation of a lot of good men. That's one of the reasons why the Swiftboat Veterans for the Truth had no trouble getting over 250 swift vets to denounce Kerry. These are ordinary people. If they lied, Kerry has a billionare's resources to sue all of them for liable. They've documented their stuff and have already discredited Kerry's "Christmas in Cambodia" lie.

There are a lot of other Vietnam vets who oppose him, too, because he was one of the reasons why so many of them were spat upon and called babykillers when they came home. American POWs were also treated very harshly and most of them hate Kerry's guts.
