And I broke that (*&(*^^ tail stobe again this morning! The place where I park the Cherokee has a low beam running across the entrance, a few inches lower than the tail strobe. I put a 70 pound sandbag on the tail to lower it and then pull it out carefully, rolling it over a piece of wood to give it the last little bit of clearance. Well, I slipped and pulled it out too quick, breaking that $95 strobe tube. Piss me off! I'm considering replacing it with a shorter strobe light or perhaps breaking down and removing the tail strobe altogether, replacing it with wingtip strobes. The shorter strobe will cost about $200. The wingtip units will cost 2-3 times that, but it will allow me a lot more clearance and maybe make the plane 1-2 MPH faster. I'll discuss my options with my mechanic tomorrow.
