I have often wondered if a movie camera would have recorded what I remember. And I'm very glad there wasn't one. I'm proud of a lot in life, too much, and without great justification.
Frankly, I'm not proud of many of my actions in service to my country. I'm ashamed of some, and won't say more. Those actions, by the way, weren't really in service to my country but to the vanity of several Presidents.
And I know I've embellished some of the stories. I don't even know which ones I've embellished anymore.
Only the stay-behind chickenhawks would enter this fray. The stories I've read aren't at all unusual. I'm very suspicious of anyone who was there and is critical. And even more suspicious of folks who weren't there and are critical.
And I find it despicable that someone who was AWOL would find supporters against someone who served.

I don't know a soul over there who REALLY knew what happened.
