Speaking to a friend who works for an aerospace company, he expressed his concern about the UAV potentials.
There used to be hopes for 0 G material processing, but they were dashed when far cheaper technologies could do the same job.
Now, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles could replace most of the commercial satellites:
They would observe only specific areas, and this all the time, by flying above them. Satellites in Polar Orbit can only return every 90 minutes above the same area; geostationnary satellites are very far away.
UAVs can also be used as communication relay and navigation device.
The current rocket market is shrinking (20 launchers needed this year instead of 40 last year) Supply is much higher than demand. And UAVs might shrink it even further, making it more difficult to have a profitable satellite market.
Going to space for commercial purposes might not be as obvious in the future.
Can science alone help the launcher market? Doubtful.
Tourism in space is limited to 5,800 km/h and 100 km height; this is far from LEO. And even then, we don't know yet if suborbital flights will become profitable.

Market for rockets?
