I suspect it's something new: that "Mega-Earth" (really more of a Mega-Mercury) announcement was from a European team, but these are US researchers. Also, when the surprise is blown NASA is usually willing to admit that -- I'd expect the press release to be less cryptic if it were just the formal announcement of that earlier discovery.
