re: International Criminal Court

"About the Abu Graib scandal: Isn't it time for the US to join the ICC ?

A civilian Commander under prosecution for events like those in Abu Ghraib, would have a considerably stronger defense on the basis of the statute of the International Criminal Court than on the basis of the case law, which was applied by the United States against the Japanese cabinet members after World War II"

This EXACTLY why the US shouldn't join the ICC. Only very stupid judges could compared what Japan did to what happenned at Abu Graib. There is no comparsion- if you actually look at the facts.

In the US we make an effort to have judges who are not swayed by latest fad and can make reasonable judgements [Ok, ok, the 9th curcuit is a failure in this regard- but politics can get into anything]
