The crux of the matter is that the war in Iraq was reckless and not justified. This differs significantly from the legitimate reasons to have gone to war in Afghanistan - a nation which was willfully harboring terrorists known to have acted against American citizens onAmerican soil.
George Bush justified the war in Iraq on the basis that he still possessed large stockpiles of chemical and biologicial weapons. Bush claimed that Saddam could turn these weapons over to terrorists to use against American citizens. This simply wasn't true.
Apart from the fact that irresponsible act has cost American taxpayers hundreds of billions of dollars and that nearly one thousand families have lost their dearest loved ones for no good reason, the war has worked against this nations's long term interests. It has damaged our credibility and our diplomatic influence. It is just plain bad foreign policy.
Its easy to offer simple-minded, neatly-worded justifications, but these are the rhetorical remnants of pop policy steeped in the analytical depth of a National Inquirer article. Its cheap thinking.
The world and its people are far more complex. Its not black and white, nor good and evil. Bush and company pander to lazy minds who think the world can be easily broken down into two simple sides. This kind of thnking is not just wrong - its dangerous.
The war in Iraq in wrong because its war - its wrong because its the wrong war.
