You are assuming that it is the “mass” that causes the gravitational field.
The gravity does not originate in the mass, it originates in the spacetime continuum that is within and surrounding the mass, that is according to Einstein.
It follows that “IF” there is a different way of causing a curvature in spacetime, then “mass” can be taken out of the calculation, or at least treated differently within the calculations.
