A new study finds most heart attacks are predictable.
The latest study released at a meeting of the European Cardiology Society included 29,000 people from 52 countries.
It appears heart attack victims have a lot in commom. There are many risk factors, but two appear to be responsible for two thirds of all heart attacks. Those are your ratio of good and bad cholesterol, and smoking.
Other risk factors included high blood pressure, diabetes, abdominal obesity, stress, and not eating enough fruits and vegetables. The risk factors were the same for every ethnic group.
This study contradicts current thinking that only half of the risk factors of heart disease are known.
(Can't resist. There are other studies out there which say one has to include the other factors. Conservatives, in the fine tradition of their global warming position, can and should continue to eat fat and smoke. After all, it's inconclusive. At best. The studies could be wrong, and then you'd have quit smoking and limited fat for NO REASON AT ALL, destroying your lifestyle. Even though you could affort cigarettes and fat.)
