Bush:"My opponent knows that not only do I have no control over the SBV's, but he knows it is illegal for campaigns, like the Kerry campaign has done, to coordinate with 527's. That said, I am amazed that anyone running for President thinks he or she should be immune from or be able to censor, the free speech of Americans. I see my job as President to be one to defend free speech. If Sen. Kerry thinks his job is different, he is welcome to take it up with American people."
Bush walks away.
That, alas, did not pass.
Frankly, we now have two candidates who are willing to see political free speech curtailed. The term, "slippery slope" comes to mind.
