The safest place to be after September 11th was in an airliner. Obviously there had to be a temporary shutdown to ensure the attack was over but once the info was widely disseminated about the terrorist methods in the hijackings, the possibility of another set of passengers sitting idly by as thugs took over the cockpit was zero.
Not to mention that the supply of pilot-trained suicidal terrorists had been severely depleted. No, had there been a follow-up attack, I am absolutely certain it would've come in a different form. I think we're barking up trees worrying about methods of transportation in the next attack. Bin Laden's intent, in my opinion, was never to shut down the airline industry but instead to strike terror by exposing our vulnerability and blowing holes in our economy.
I really feel their next shot is going to be out of the blue in some area where we simply haven't got the manpower or resources to cover. They're sitting back laughing at us now as we're taking shoes off of elderly people in wheelchairs at airports and putting armed guards on buses. It'll be covert intelligence that has the only chance of stopping the next attack and much of that success will be to dumb luck as well as the skill of the operatives.

- re: Right you lose all my respect. Some of those billions came from shutting down an industry because of irrational fears on the part of this Administration. (n/t)
