It actually doesn't much matter the trend is to smaller spread already.
But as Mark pointed out elsewhere a poll of registered voters is usually considered better than one of "likely voters" as there is no different interpretation of the words registered voters other than they are registered. Most professionals don't even look at likely voter polls. Possibly a mistake, but understandable.
