I hear Mary Anne is lurking around these boards and pouncing on typos. ;-)
Affirmative action has a time and a place. Broad strokes have a time and a place. Today's racial quotas in schools and government contracting are ridiculous. In Iraq the prejudice against women makes the prejudice against blacks in the 1960's seem mild. Centuries of religious indoctrination is the toughest to combat in a short time period.
The GOP is the party of abolitionists. It is the party of the man who gave back human dignity to the men and women who were enslaved by the Democrats.
There is a time and place for various policies. In the first years, Iraq should require this high level of female participation. Then after a few years and men have grown accustomed to seeing women work, the laws can be rewritten so that quotas aren't necessary and turned from a positive step to reverse discrimination.
Doesn't that just make more sense?
