re: and I'd rather ignore it

"But, since I had to open your post in order to say that, the question arises: What the Hell does this six-year-old issue about "60 Minutes" have to do with the future of our country and the world?"

Well, Fox I know you actually know what the significant is, but I'll play along.
I would start by saying one of the issues is that "60 minutes" is becoming less to do with the future of our country and the world.

One should ask, why did people make "60 minutes"? This show's purpose was to provide more information than what was available from the regular news. It was supposed to provide an opportunity for more time to be spent on the news. Of course the real answer in this regard was CNN- 24 hours news, but even when these news people were given the whole slot instead of a couple hours per day, they continue the same pattern for the most part- not really informing the American public. Basically following the old news format of 1/2 hour of news, but in sequence with some "60 minute" type programs put in "prime time slots".
Now, we have [at least I have] 3 or 4 or more of these 24 hour news programs- and it really is same old stuff.

But if you actually look at it, the *really important* part of "the news" is the "police car chase", cameracrew in a hurriance, and from the frontline of a war. And this stuff, regardless of the reality and seriousness, and whatever, is entertainment. There is a strong market for this TV entertainment- most people call it news. But if you just want plain news, the TV is lousy- why do I need to watch someone wearing makeup reading something. I can read; just show me the teleprompter. I don't need clowns telling me bedtime stories.
To think that "Rather" is more credible than someone wearing an ape suit just means you fallen for their con game.
