All concrete construction of this type that I know about has a series of layers of chickenwire-like reinforcement over which the concrete is literally sprayed. See also: ferrocement and gunnite.

This stuff is incredibly strong, and I have seen boats made this way (believe it or not.) Ferrocement boats were a subject of a paper I wrote in architecture school.
