WASHINGTON - Playing on the fear factor, Vice President Dick Cheney suggested in a campaign speech there might be another terrorist attack on the United States if John Kerry were in the White House.

(Now, for what he said in 2002: "In my opinion, prospect of a future attack against the United States is almost certain," he said on NBC's "Meet the Press." "We don't know if it's going to be tomorrow or next week or next year." He added that it was "not a matter of if, but when." Doesn't say anything about who is president.)

President Bush opponents’ also are raising their own worst fears, including the potential for more wars during a second Bush term.

However, "That’s fear-mongering,” said Joseph Carafano, a 25-year Army veteran and former West Point professor who now is an analyst with the conservative Heritage Foundation."

Not Cheney - no - that's NOT fear-mongering. But the people who suggest, based upon experience, that Bush will keep this country in a constant state of war IS fear-mongering.

And that plays well with the True Believers. Go figure.
