re: First Lunar Outpost

Hey Raoul, ca va?

I'm not too terribly enthusiastic about Lunar Direct FLO. My concern is everything that it ignores and the kind of infrastructure it would leave us with.

We don't learn about orbital assembly and operations
We don't learn how to take care of the mess in GEO
We don't learn how to adapt the ISS to new missions
We don't learn how to send a regular stream of Sun and Star Watchers out into the Solar System with an auto-return function.
We don't end up with a vehicle that can maneuver in cislunar space.
We don't end up with an EML-1 station

We end up with a minimal presence on the Moon and that minimal presence would be NASA PhDnauts. Once again the American public would have been sold a stunt instead of an investment in our economic future.

Americans have always been great at opening new frontiers, and FLO doesn't really serve that end. There are better and smarter ways of getting to the Moon.

And after today's Zero-G flight my body wants to go to the Moon as well as my brain. We'd better be getting back there!
