"Statement by Mary Jane McManus, wife of Vietnam POW Kevin McManus who was shot down on June 14, 1967 and didn’t return to Andrews Air Force Base until February 22, 1973.
John Kerry and his campaign are not telling the truth about his visits to Paris in the early 1970s. Mr. Kerry's surrogates claims he was seeking a solution to the POW problem, but the exact opposite resulted because of his recklessness. North Vietnamese leaders had said publicly that activity such as Kerry’s encouraged them to prolong the war and keep POWs like my husband captive. It also reinforced the communists’ original claims that they were holding war criminals, which opened them up to trials that would result in execution, prolonged imprisonment or slave labor.
Mr. Kerry’s unauthorized meeting with Madame Binh, the Vietcong delegate to the Paris Peace Talks, was followed by a news conference at which he announced his support for her so-called “peace plan†that amounted to America’s surrender. Far from alleviating the suffering of my husband, this only further endangered the lives of American POWs and encouraged our enemies. Mr. Kerry did tremendous harm to families like mine and many others. Mr. Kerry should explain to people why he did this and why he endorsed the plans of the enemy in time of war.
Background
Mrs. McManus is featured in the new documentary Stolen Honor: Wounds That Never Heal, produced and narrated by Pulitzer Prize and Emmy Award winning journalist Carlton Sherwood, himself a decorated U.S. Marine veteran who saw combat duty in Vietnam. The documentary is about U.S. POWs in Vietnam and how John Kerry betrayed them.
After the Vietnam war General Vo Nguyen Giap, Supreme Commander of the Forces of North Vietnam, wrote his memoirs. In them, he stated that if it weren't for organizations like Kerry's Vietnam Veterans Against the War, Hanoi would have surrendered to the U.S. Interviewed in a Time/Life documentary, The Ten Thousand Day War, Giap reiterated this point and gave credit for the Communist victory to the U.S. media and protestors like Jane Fonda and John Kerry."
I have a feeling a lot Vets are going to go to the polls November 2.
