At the risk of stating the obvious, they're not all stupid and evil, of course.
Weinerboy was stupid for sending the pictures, and he earns this week's Evil Bastard trophy for standing before his family and the world and lying about it. The fact that he lied badly is not a mitigating factor.
But they're not all like that. Actually (and frighteningly) America would seem to have a relatively good record for keeping truly disasterous people out of office. And if we let the occasional Sonny Bono through...well, to paraphrase the Project Manager's mantra: power, stupidity and longevity--you can have two of the three.
