We see that the French fear what will happen if Turkey is admitted to the EU...but Brussels only sees more power, even if the QOL of all Europe has to go down to attain it.
Extending membership to Turkey would stretch the EU's borders to Syria and Iraq - which some opponents say would put Europe too close to the Middle East.
...that's my favorite line. Why? Because it assumes that Europe is not already bound and gagged (and raped) by the Middle East.
Immigration is one of the leading causes of violence and crime in western nations. Someday folks will have to face the facts instead of seeing illegals as an untapped political bloc that can sway elections in their favor.
