re: How would the teather be launched from the payload bay?
The counterweight at the end of the tether must have some mass...How does that mass get the extra Delta V to launch the payload at the end of the tether?
And in relation to the size of the hypersonic launch vehicle, the payload at the end of the tether must be fairly small.
Maybe I'm missing something.
