Horrible thing Scott.

No, Bush is not to blame for the work of madmen. I did find it interesting in your link at the Al-Jazeerah website though, the titles of the various links to articles. I think it illustrates greatly the type of hatred the Arab world has for us right now:

Three Killed in US Airstrike In Fallujah

French MP - US Bombed journalist's envoy

EU Blasts Israeli Attacks in Gaza

Guantanamo Detainee's Letter Reveals Torture

Freed Italian Backs Iraqi Resistance.

Not one article on this page says anything to the people of the Arab world about the successes we may be having in Iraq or any testimonial about a positive experience a citizen there has had. My guess is that this website was much more balanced in their approach to the US (or simply ignored us more) prior to the Iraq invasion. This is all the Arab world hears about us. The good news blogs Tom cites get read by well-educated people primarily living in civilized lands. Every mistake that happens in this war, collateral damage, civilian casualties, holes in mosques, etc., gets big attention in the Arab media. So George Bush is not directly responsible for the hatred, but the war that he helped bring about is a factor in it. To turn a blind eye to this fact is strategic mistake.

Bush seems to only be concerned with bringing his message of hope and eventual success to US voters, not to the people of the country he is now occupying. Without a balanced voice, we lose the propoganda war. Part of our success in the cold war was due to things such as Radio Free Europe and Kennedy's and Reagan's speeches challenging the Russians to do the right thing. All Bush ever says to the Arabs and terrorists are threats. He never talks to the people that supposedly support us and urges them to fight back against the violence or if he has, I certainly haven't heard those messages.

Maybe it's time for a bit of humility here instead of just blind rage.
