Hey, I give you an "A+" for creative thinking. But i'm in no position to grade though.
"I forgot that liquid water would vaporize in a vacuum. Ice does't sublimate in space - does it?
Why worry about breaking the Asteroid/Comet up? Smaller pieces would likely burn up- engaged early enough.
