Philippe Brett, a former chauffeur of an extreme-right french parliamentary, has, with the help of another parliamentary, and totally independantly from the official circuits, completely failed to return the two french hostages from Iraq. He called Europe 1 pretending the journalists were with him on their way to Damascus. Apparently this was completely false.
The French diplomats are very upset and fear the worst.
Brett appeared on Al Arabya, declaring things the official diplomats had no idea about.
Brett, in the past, was a friend of the Baathists in Iraq.

They wanted to do a "media coup" but it's a fiasco instead.
