If that 3 percent that need the insurance comes out to 27 million people, the total population comes out to 873 million. Wow.
But seriously:
You can go over Kerry's health plan, unfiltered by Bowser and whoever his source was, here. Good luck figuring it out.
Kerry says this will cost about 653 billion over ten years.
A report by the Lewin Group, comparing Bush and Kerry's health care proposals, puts Kerry's price tag at closer to $1.25 trillion over that time period, offset by reduced state and industry costs.
The press release is instructive: The essence of Kerry's plan is apparently to drag American health insurance into the all-powerful Federal Government, basically sucking it away from the state level, and pulling over $700 billion out of the private insurance system.
Now, add to this the unbroken record of American entitlements bursting all bounds of predicted costs, and creating immense bureaucracies to administer them, and I think we would find that the 1.25 trillion is at the low end of the scale.
John Kerry's goal is nationalized health care and the destruction of the private insurance industry, just like it is for most Democratic politicians. The "97 percent keeping their own insurance" doesn't stand up to very close examination.
