I arrive in Portland on Thursday, 24 hours after a good Pacific front comes in... :(
By Sunday and Monday though, it may clear up some, and all that snow (snow level will be down to 5000', dome is at 6500') may produce all sorts of steam clouds. Assuming they don't close down the Visitors Center at Coldwater Ridge (8.5mi from the peak), might be something to see.
If winds are blowing to the NW though I wouldn't go. 8.5mi, on a ridge, is far enough that anything short of another 1980 won't hit the center, but ashfall certainly would, and that would suck. And I doubt my father will appreciate me doing that to his nice, new, white pickup, even in the name of science. Too bad he finally ditched the 21 year old beater truck this summer.
In any case, I'm packing up the camera and will hit Home Depot for a good face mask. I'll be sure to fill in the HZ on any adventures I have, though pics may take a while since I'm using that ancient technology known as "film".

Darn those rainclouds!
