They sent out an email to a list of people (where did they get these email ids from, by the way?) with instructions to "please forward", and then they used the names of anyone who a response came in for?

No verification at all?

If that's the case, then it is pretty much guaranteed that a lot of the names are fraudulent. Someone should check them all.
