Lots of interest in that old election lately.
Last weekend, BookTV (which I love) rebroadcast a June 26, 2004, lecture by James Chase on the subject of his book, 1912: Wilson, Roosevelt, Taft & Debs- The Election that Changed the Country.
It's a fascinating story, one that puts the Progressive branch of the Republican party on display. TR, the great Bull Moose himself, had quite a different set of ideals for the Republicans.
Publishers' Weekly said, "The race was also marked by a basic decency, honesty and quality of debate not often seen again." Maybe the interest is enhanced by a nostalgia for decency, honesty and quality of debate. We certainly haven't had any of that recently.
