Interestingly enough, the US did protect the oilfields, and then seemed to punish the rest of the country by letting mayhem rule.

And while airpower can wreak havoc, it takes feet on the ground to control the countryside. People there, full-time.

And obviously there aren't enough.

Bremer has enough guts to admit there weren't enough, a fact which is as obvious as the aggression was illegal. And there still aren't enough, another fact which is obvious.

In order to keep it from seeming like another Vietnam, Bush has created another Vietnam, only with much, much worse consequences.
