Could it be that a job as a truck driver simply sucks? Very few operators these days can afford to be independent owners with the price of fuel and insurance so they're stuck working for huge trucking firms that pay low wages and push them to their limits. Highways are getting more and more crowded by the day and driving is more testy and dangerous.
I would think that many of the people who would be truck drivers have taken jobs in the booming construction industry where the wages have been high for the last few years.
