Iraq is three diverse populations artificially turned into a "nation" by the British. As with the former Soviet Union and the former Yugoslavia it took a brutal dictator to hold it together.

The Kurds were trying to secede, and what was going on was a civil war. I'm not defending the unconsciounable slaughters, they were unforgiveable. I am trying to provide a context.

As far as fine young Americans dying to prevent this from happening again, that is utter nonsense. As soon as they rid the area of Americans, or maybe before, they will turn on each other again, and there will be another slaughter. Or slaughters.

The idea that the US is spending $200 billion and American lives to prevent slaughters of Iraqis, while killing them, is hopelessly naive.
