Historically, it's when people trust their guts instead of their brains that we end up with Fuehrers. Not that this is the case in this election--either way--but just something to keep in mind.
Although a lot of Democrats seem to have almost forgotten who their candidate is in the rush to oust the hated Bush, it might be worth another look.
"Kerry couldn't possibly do worse" is not much of an endorsement.
In fact Kerry could very well do worse, and if he handles economics and foreign policy in accordance with his actual record of actions, votes, policies and statements over the past thirty years, rather than in accordance with statements made only since he was nominated, it's almost a certainty.
Also, a lot of this election to me will be about integrity. Integrity is the connection between all of a person's actions and principles, from small to large.
When Clinton was president, I said back then that someone who would lie to his wife, child, and the American electorate about sex would sure as hell lie about anything at all to anybody at all if it served his self-interest. A lot of people didn't know what I meant. I later used the analogy of observing the president of your bank filching a candy bar from the 7-11. Still a lot of people didn't get it--"it's just a candy bar, for God's sake."
If I were to say that one of many things by which one can judge the candidates is that Kerry is obviously only pretending that he likes hunting, I would bet a lot of people wouldn't get that either.
