Mark asked:
Why do you find Triton more interesting than Pluto and the Kuiper belt?
Triton offers alot of bang-per-buck for a Kuiper belt object. First, it can be argued that Triton came from the same Kuiper belt object that also created Pluto and Chiron (one can argue that doing Triton is a cheap way to do Pluto and Chiron) . Also because Triton orbits Neptune, one gets Neptune along with Triton. Triton is suceptible to higher speed access through an electric propulsion system to quickly get there coupled with aerocapture from Neptune to quckly slow down (no low thrust decelleration). Also Triton might(?) be the closest Kuiper belt object (there has been speculation that Saturn's moon Rhea is a Kuiper belt object).
