Coordinated media buttmonkey attack fell flat...
On Sunday night, New York Times Executive Editor Bill Keller told Jeff Fager, executive producer of CBS's "60 Minutes," that the story they had been jointly pursuing on missing Iraqi ammunition was starting to leak on the Internet.
"You know what? We're going to have to run it Monday," Keller said.
Keller goes noble later in the article, apparently forgetting his earlier comment:
Keller said "60 Minutes" executives asked the newspaper to hold the story until this Sunday so they could report it the same day, and "we said we weren't comfortable doing that because it wouldn't give the White House a fair opportunity to respond."
Oh, yeah. Right.
The NYT fired the story off early because it didn't want to be scooped, and thus screwed up a carefully timed and coordinated attack on Bush by the newspaper and 60 Minutes. The good news for 60 Minutes is that at least they aren't stuck holding the Bullshit Bag like they were with the fake memos.
It's also obvious that the Democratic Party has ads and speeches ready to roll the second this hit the streets. No coordination there, either. Sure. Unfortunately, Kerry doesn't seem to be very fast on his feet, and is still punching away at it as though everything had gone according to plan.
