tidal forces less than the Moon
Hi Robert
Titan's tides are only 3 times higher than the Moon's, but the eccentricity is lower (0.0554 vs 0.0288) - and the orbital separation is greater. The differential between the inner and the outer part of the orbits is what powers tidal friction I think, since there would be no change with a perfectly circular orbit. Factor that in and the energy released by Titan per orbit is just 80% the Moon, but the power is about ~1.4 times the Moon. A rocky moon isn't going to notice a few gigawatts, but an icy one might find them very significant. Ammonia/water is very likely to be fluid as some sort of magma not too far down.
